"Art By HPJanssen"

A complete overview of all artworks by Hieronymus P. Janssen (Jeroen)

Born in Nijmegen, and now living in Amsterdam for about 20 years. Given the quantity and diversity of cultural and creative activities in the capital, his choice of Amsterdam was almost a matter of course.

Hieronymus (nickname Jeroen) started painting in 2005. With the exception of some basic knowledge acquired during his student days, he is entirely self-taught.

The countless ideas in his head, his drive and inner compulsion to create, and the challenge of the unknown formed the basis for actually getting started with canvas and paint. Although he has also been creating commissioned paintings in recent years, he continues to paint from his feelings.

For him, the journey to a finished painting always begins with a specific image in his mind, sometimes drawing inspiration from the outside, but often from within. He then places this image within a broader context, attempting to elevate this image or idea to a higher level.

For some works he makes extensive sketches, for others not at all. Although he works from a primary idea, the creation of the actual canvas is driven by his feelings and intuition. This process of simultaneously creating and processing creativity usually leads to a love-hate relationship between him and his artwork. You could describe it as a struggle between wanting to make the image in his head 'perfect' and the impossibility of this perfection. For him, a canvas is definitively 'finished' when he looks at it after about three days and it gives him a positive feeling and inner peace! If there is no conflict between him and the canvas he is working on, then it is actually always an inferior work..., and consequently always ends up in the trash can!

From the very beginning, he has used various themes to create diptychs and series of specific subjects. For example, his first series of paintings has the theme 'pregnant women'. In this, the creative power of the woman is depicted.

Currently, his work is characterized by predominantly abstract work.

Thanks to the internet, he has secured a first commission from the US, and a canvas of his is now hanging in the United States.

Have fun viewing the paintings!!
